Fujimi and Hobbyboss 1/72 A-7 Corsairs

I’ve finally got the painting underway, the Hobbyboss A-7K will be in the S.E. Asia wraparound scheme of FS30219 Tan, FS34079 Forest Green and FS34102 Light Green. The Fujimi A-7D will be in the ‘European 1’ scheme of FS36081 Dark Grey and FS34079 Forest Green.

Mr Hobby colours will be used mostly but thinned with their SLT (Self Levelling Thinner) rather than IPA or Tamiya X-20. After the Sea Fury disaster I was loathe to use them again but after spraying a test piece with a mix of Mr Hobby and SLT and when dry sticking a piece of the fiercest masking tape I have (3M) onto the painted area, after a day or so I removed the tape and it had not reacted with the paint so I *should* be OK in future with using Mr Hobby.

For the grey on the Fujimi A-7D I’ve used Tamiya XF-54 Dark Sea Grey rather than the exact shade as when I come to gloss-coat the model the varnish will darken it somewhat, FS36081 is dark to start off with.

The lighter grey areas are filler as the base coats highlighted some bits that I missed.

I've been a modelmaker for a verrry long time and still show no signs of growing out of it after 48 years. I mainly build tanks, aircraft and paint figures but generally do whatever takes my fancy whether it's historical, Science-fiction, a 'what-if' or because it has pretty colours and looks nice. I'm hoping that you find my blog interesting and useful, particularly if building a model that I have built and documented here.
