Airfix 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury

I sprayed the final top coat last night but when removing the masking from the undersurfaces, the glue on the masking tape has reacted with the paint;

The paint is now completely ruined and will require a complete respray of the undersurfaces OR the model may need to completely stripped and I’ll have start again but I’ll assess that after cleaning up the Sky colour.

A couple of things I have learned from this is that my usual brand of masking tape cannot be used with Mr Hobby paint as even after a couple of days curing time the paint is still too soft. The areas that had Tamiya masking tape on (the demarcation between upper and lower colours) were fine so in future Tamiya tape should only be used with Mr Hobby.

By the way I am not blaming Mr Hobby paint at all, this is my own fault for being a cheapskate and not using Tamiya masking tape in the first place. In the end it has cost me a week’s worth of time and virtually a whole jar of Sky.

I've been a modelmaker for a verrry long time and still show no signs of growing out of it after 48 years. I mainly build tanks, aircraft and paint figures but generally do whatever takes my fancy whether it's historical, Science-fiction, a 'what-if' or because it has pretty colours and looks nice. I'm hoping that you find my blog interesting and useful, particularly if building a model that I have built and documented here.
