Revell/ Matchbox 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2

That’s number three finished! Yet another model I’m not entirely happy with as the decals look awful close up and yet again I had issues with the paint leaving a gritty finish in places, mainly down to the paint drying too fast as it hit the model due to the high temperatures we had inContinue reading “Revell/ Matchbox 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

I put the decals on the model tonight using a mixture of the kit supplied decals and ones by HaHen; The kit decals include all the stencilling as HaHen only supply the codes, crosses and unit badges, another thing to note is that the decals all printed together and you have to cut each oneContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

After touching up a couple of areas, the model got a light overspray of a very thinned basecoat; Looking at the two photo’s there doesn’t seem to be much difference after overspraying but there is. All I need to do now is paint the anti-glare panel on the nose, the leading edges of the wingsContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

After a LOT of masking, I was finally able to get the camouflage scheme sprayed using Hataka C149 Concrete Grey (RAL7023) and C192 Basalt Grey (RAL7012). These are from the Orange Line lacquer range as I find they spray better than their acrylics. The two colours need lightening up a bit as they are quiteContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

I’ve undercoated the model with a Humbrol rattle can grey as I needed to see if there were any flaws after all the filling and sanding, fortunately (and to my big surprise) there are only a couple of areas that need attending to. One area is the thin sheet of plastic I put on theContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

After making resin casts of the flap actuator mechanisms, these were sanded down, cleaned up and glued to the underside of the wings. I temporarily fixed the fuel tanks in place and apart from adding a couple of aerials to the fuselage, the model is now ready to be cleaned down and undercoated. It’s notContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

In a previous post I was weighing up the possibility of doing the model as 59+22 as featured on the Prime Portal walkaround. Further reading on the German language walkaround site Scale News revealed (after I hit the translate button) that this particular aircraft was one of 10 fitted with underwing fuel tanks for surveillanceContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

With the ICM ambulance done I’m trying to get this finished before the year is out. I had built the exhausts but Tamiya Extra Thin was too strong for the 5 thou (0.03mm) plastic I had used plus after looking at reference pictures the shape was wrong too; Tonight I removed the exhausts and madeContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2

I’ve glued the wings to the fuselage and hopefully got them straight. In hindsight I should have cut the locating tabs off the wings, opened up the wing sides, glued longer tabs into the fuselage and fitted the wings that way instead as it would have helped with getting the wings level and made strongerContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”

Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2

I spent a few hours on this today trying to make some progress on it. Having glued the new resin engine fronts onto the nacelles last weekend I sanded down the filler that was needed and removed what little detail there was. The ribbing on the cowlings was replaced with heat-stretched sprue plus various shapesContinue reading “Revell 1/72 Dornier Do28D-2”
