Airfix 1/72 Hawk T.1

That’s that wrapped up for The Interesting Modelling Company’s ‘Airfix August’ group build.

Not a bad kit but it does need some tweaks. Obviously the surface detail is not as good as the Revell kit but having looked at that a few months ago, I can’t say I was impressed with it fit-wise as a lot of surface detail is likely to disappear when sorting out the joints. Anyway back to the Airfix kit and the markings are for the 74 sqn 1992 display Hawk which came from a Modeldecal sheet that has been in the stash for 30 years or more. I have to say they worked very well considering their age and the white gunk you sometimes get with old decals wasn’t too much of an issue. The thin white line around the main canopy framing was done with a fine strip cut from white decal paper.

It makes a nice contrast to the Airfix Hawk I built in the 80s too;

Aftermarket goodies for this latest build included a Kuvalainen etch set, Reskit wheels and a Master pitot tube.

I've been a modelmaker for a verrry long time and still show no signs of growing out of it after 50 plus years. I mainly build tanks, aircraft and paint figures but generally do whatever takes my fancy whether it's historical, Science-fiction, a 'what-if' or because it has pretty colours and looks nice. I'm hoping that you find my blog interesting and useful, particularly if building a model that I have built and documented here.

    1. Cheers Spence! Must admit a lot of my earlier stuff went to landfill years ago but the Hawk was kept along with an Airfix Canberra and Hunter as they were all in the ‘raspberry ripple’ colour schemes and I never had the heart to throw them out :o)
