Takom 1/35 1/4 ton Utility Truck

….or the Jeep as everybody else knows it but for copyright reasons it is a 1/4 ton Utility truck.

ANYWAY next on the bench is this Takom Jeep. My partner has an idea for a diorama (she is very interested in what I do) so after finishing the Miniart Lieferwagen I’ve made a start on the Jeep to go with it.

The kit is pretty good to be honest, the only niggling thing is the amount of mould-pin marks on the model.

Example of one of the many pin-marks in the kit, some in visible areas too.

Fit of parts so far is good but where the axles locate on the leaf springs, I had to dig the plastic out to get the axles to fit properly. The location of parts is pretty vague in places too especially where the leaf springs attach to the chassis. The oval bumpers on the rear of the chassis needed considerable thinning out and probably better replaced with etched items.

There is a full engine included and it only requires plug leads and other wiring to enhance it. The thing is you will only see it with the bonnet (hood) open so you could save yourself some time if you are modelling a Jeep with the bonnet closed.

As I say, it’s not a bad little model but you really need to take care getting the axles aligned properly as it is very easy to get them off-set.

I've been a modelmaker for a verrry long time and still show no signs of growing out of it after 50 plus years. I mainly build tanks, aircraft and paint figures but generally do whatever takes my fancy whether it's historical, Science-fiction, a 'what-if' or because it has pretty colours and looks nice. I'm hoping that you find my blog interesting and useful, particularly if building a model that I have built and documented here.
